| About Me
Most bio's are about the person's history, where the were born, where they grew up, blah, blah, blah. I decided to write a musical bio to give everyone a feel for how I got to where I am today
I began my musical career in grammar school. I began playing the saxophone in 4th grade and sang in the chorus until 6th grade. I continued playing the sax until 10th grade.
I was first exposed to the guitar in 8th grade. I had the option of taking a semester of guitar or piano as part of the music curriculum. I chose the guitar. And quickly found I had an aptitude. In a short 10 weeks, I had learned all the basic chords and was easily strumming and switching between chords.
I finally switched back to guitar when I bought my first electric from a garage sale at age 16. I took lessons here and there but mostly learned to play from listening to lots of heavy metal and watching MTV. I also picked up a lot of tricks from my pals that also played. Not taking formal lessons and not trying to play like anyone in particular contributed to my style of playing. I pretty much took some tricks from many other guitarists and blended them into my own style.
I didn't begin playing in a true band until I was about 28, mostly because life intruded. That band, The Real Emetics, helped me to grow as a song writer. My next band, Al's Neighbors, was a cover band and really just helped me keep my chops up. During that time I also played in almost all the music groups at my church. That experience led me to learn the classical guitar.
That takes me to where I am today. All those experiences and styles are well represented on the CD. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it. |
